Today’s Quote

Christ’s suffering should be a constant meditation for the believer, for in it we find the deepest expression of God’s love.

— Jonathan Edwards

Spurgeon’s Daily Help

If there is one place where our Lord Jesus fully becomes the joy and comfort of His people, it is where He plunged deepest into the depths of sorrow. Come here, gracious souls, and see the Man in the garden of Gethsemane, with His heart so full of love that it overflows, and so full of sorrow that it

must be expressed. See the Man as they drive the nails into His hands and feet. Look up, repenting sinners, and see the sorrowful image of your suffering Lord. If we want to live rightly, we must meditate on His death; if we want to rise to dignity, we must reflect on His humiliation and sorrow.

A religious profession requires grace to sustain it. A company that starts business without capital will soon lose even the little it pretended to have, illustrating the words of our Lord, "For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance.

Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them." This shows us the result of pretending to be Christians without the grace to maintain our profession.
