Today’s Quote

Christ took your cup of grief, your cup of the curse, pressed it to His lips, drank it to its dregs then filled it with His sweet, pardoning, sympathizing love, and gave it back for you to drink, and to drink forever!

— Octavius Winslow

Spurgeon’s Daily Help

The dispensation of the old covenant was that of distance. When God appeared even to his servant Moses, he said, "Draw not near hither: put off by shoes from off your feet;" and when he manifested himself upon Mount Sinai to his own chosen and separated people, one of the first commands was, "You shall

set bounds about the mount." When the gospel came, we were placed on quite another footing. The word "Go" was exchanged for "Come;" distance was made to give place to nearness, and we who aforetime were afar off, were made near by the blood of Jesus Christ. "Come unto Me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Men know not the gold which lies in the mine of Christ Jesus, or surely they would dig in it night and day. The person of Christ strikes eloquence dumb when it would describe him, and it palsies the artist's arm when with fair colors he would portray

him. It would baffle the greatest sculptor to produce the image of the altogether lovely One, even were it possible to chisel it in a massive block of diamond.
