Hunger Satisfied
For He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. — Ps 107:9 BSB
It is good to have deep longings, and the more intense they are, the better. The Lord has promised to satisfy the soul’s deepest desires, no matter how great or overwhelming they may be. So let us long greatly, for God will give greatly. We are never in the right state of heart when we are content with ourselves and without holy desires. Longings for more grace, deep groans that words cannot express, are signs of growth, and we should welcome them. Holy Spirit, stir up in us a deeper hunger for more of God’s goodness!
Hunger is not a pleasant feeling, but blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. They will not just have their hunger appeased with a small portion; they will be filled to overflowing. And they won’t be filled with mere scraps, but with the finest blessings that come from the hand of God.
Let us not be discouraged by our longings. Instead, let us join with the psalmist in crying out, “Oh, that men would praise the Lord for His goodness and His wonderful works to the children of men!”
