It’s true that my faith is weak, and I’m prone to stumble, but this very weakness is why I should always be where you nurture your flock, so I can be strengthened and stay safe by the still waters. Why should I stray? There’s no reason to, but countless reasons not to, because Jesus calls me to come

to Him. If He seems distant for a moment, it’s only to make me value His presence even more. Now that I’m troubled and distressed by being apart from Him, He will lead me back to that sheltered place where His lambs find refuge from the harsh sun.

I long to see the idea of holiness finally separated from anything fake or impractical and instead tied to the common virtues of everyday life. Destroying the whole array of so-called holy displays that have attracted ignorant admiration in the past would

be a great benefit to us all. Showing true, practical, everyday religion in its most powerful form would be, by God’s grace, one of the greatest blessings our age could receive. “Show piety at home.”
