Spurgeon’s Daily Help
Simeon called Jesus the "consolation of Israel," and that's exactly what He was. Before He actually appeared, He was like the morning star, shining in the darkness and promising the coming dawn. The people of Israel looked to Him with the same hope that comforts someone watching through the night, when
they see the brightest star and know morning is on the way. When Jesus was on earth, He must have been a source of comfort to everyone who was blessed to be around Him. Like children, they would have shared their troubles with Him, seeing Him as a father figure.

Our hearts should be like the beacons and watchtowers that were set up along the coast of England when the Spanish Armada was about to invade—not always blazing, but always ready, with dry wood and a match close at hand, prepared to ignite at a moment’s
notice. Our souls should naturally lift up quick prayers, just as naturally as we breathe.
