Today’s Quote

I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God’s hands that I still possess.

— Martin Luther

Spurgeon’s Daily Help

If you know these two things—that you’re a sinner and that Christ is a Savior—it means you’re looking away from yourself and toward Jesus. Oh, there are some people who misunderstand the gospel; they think that being righteous qualifies them to come to Christ, but it’s actually sin that qualifies a person

to come to Jesus. As the old preacher Crisp said, "Righteousness keeps me from Christ: the healthy don’t need a doctor, but the sick do. Sin makes me come to Jesus when I feel its weight; and the more sin I have when I come to Christ, the more reason I have to hope for mercy."

The Spurgeon Birthday Book

February 18

The person who, in the midst of a thousand troubles, keeps their heart pure and their integrity intact can face the world and all the forces of Hell without fear. But the person who does wrong out of self-interest has thrown away their shield. Innocence,

even without armor, is as strong as chainmail, while cunning and deceit, even if protected by steel, will fall, mortally wounded by the arrows of God’s providence.

Spurgeon’s Quote

Repentance makes us see the evil of sin, not merely as a theory, but experimentally, as a burnt child dreads fire.
