“If the Arameans are too strong for me,” said Joab, “then you will come to my rescue. And if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will come to your rescue. — 2 Sam 10:11 BSB
Here we find a great lesson on the duty of helping each other.
In battle, if one division saw their brothers struggling, they were to rush to their aid. The same duty applies today. If I’m strong and you’re struggling, it’s my responsibility to come to your aid.
Loving our neighbor means helping them when they are in need. There’s a Christian responsibility to use whatever we have in abundance to meet the lack in others.
"If I should see
A brother languishing in sore distress,
And I should turn and leave him comfortless,
When I might be
A messenger of hope and happiness—
How could I ask to have what I denied,
In my own hour of bitterness supplied?"
