God Will Answer

He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him; He hears their cry and saves them. — Ps 145:19 BSB

The desire within us has been placed there by His own Spirit, so He will surely answer it. It is His own life within us that prompts the cry, so He will hear it. Those who fear Him are under the holiest influence, and their desire is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Like Daniel, they are people of desire, and the Lord will cause them to see their aspirations fulfilled.

Holy desires are like the first sprouts of grace, and the heavenly Gardener will nurture them until they grow into a full harvest. God-fearing people desire to be holy, to be useful, to be a blessing to others, and to honor their Lord. They desire provision for their needs, help with their burdens, guidance in times of confusion, and deliverance in times of distress. Sometimes this desire is so intense, and their situation so desperate, that they cry out in agony like children in pain. It is then that the Lord acts most comprehensively, fulfilling the promise: “and will save them.”

Yes, if we fear God, we have nothing else to fear; if we cry out to the Lord, our salvation is assured.

Let the reader carry this text with them all day, like “a wafer made with honey,” and savor its sweetness.
