Today’s Quote

The cross is the climax of redemption, where Christ’s work was gloriously completed.

— J.C. Ryle

Spurgeon’s Daily Help

Christ longed for the cross because He saw it as the goal of all His efforts. He could never say, "It is finished" while sitting on His throne; but on the cross, He cried it out. He preferred the sufferings of Calvary over the honors of the crowd around Him because, no matter how many He blessed and

healed, His work was still incomplete. "I long for my sufferings," He said, "because they will complete my great work of grace." It’s the end that brings the honor; it’s the victory that crowns the warrior, not the battle. And so Christ longed for His death because it would bring the completion of His work.

April 8

Just as the earth soaks up the rain, the sea receives the rivers, and the night accepts light from the stars, we, giving nothing, freely receive the grace of God. The saints are not naturally wells or streams, but they are cisterns into which the living

water flows. They are empty vessels into which the Lord pours His salvation. Lord, fill my soul until it overflows with praise!
