But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see Him, just as He told you.’” — Mark 16:7 BSB
The joyful news of Christ’s resurrection must not be kept to ourselves but shared quickly with others who are still in sorrow. There’s no time to waste! The women at the tomb were not to sit down and enjoy the news alone; there were others in the darkness of grief who needed to hear the glad tidings. Similarly, we must not forget, in our joy of faith, that others still lack this joy. Our mission is to carry the good news to them and rejoice as we go.
“Tell His disciples and Peter.” Why was Peter mentioned specifically? Because he was the saddest of them all, the one who needed comfort the most. Peter had sinned and was weeping in deep repentance. This shows Christ’s tender heart toward those who are truly penitent. Imagine the unspeakable joy Peter must have felt upon receiving this message. Jesus had not cast him off after all! Peter would now have the chance to weep on his Lord’s shoulder, confess his sin, and receive forgiveness.
“And Peter” carries a special message for every repentant soul. Have you grieved Christ through sin, denial, or unfaithfulness? Are you weeping over your failure? Those who have fallen are the ones closest to Jesus’ heart because they need Him most. “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Luke 5:31-32
