Today’s Quote

Love sees only Christ and measures all things by His glory.

— Thomas Watson

Spurgeon’s Daily Help

Love for Christ makes the path of duty easier and gives wings to our feet to travel it. It creates a life of sincere devotion.

Love has clear vision, but it sees only one thing—it’s blind to everything else but its Lord. It sees everything in the light of His glory and weighs actions in the scales of

His honor. It considers royalty to be mere drudgery if it cannot reign for Christ, but it finds joy in servitude just as much as in honor if it can advance the Master’s kingdom. Its purpose sweetens all its efforts; its goal lightens its toil and removes its weariness.

The Spurgeon Birthday Book

April 17

Truth often runs in parallel lines, sometimes in two or even more. When the Holy Spirit shows us one line, He wisely points out the other. The truth of God’s sovereignty is balanced by human responsibility, and the teaching of abundant grace is tempered

by the reminder of unwavering justice. Scripture gives us, so to speak, both the acid and the alkali, the rock and the oil that flows from it, the sword that cuts, and the balm that heals. We must accept both.
