Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? — Luke 11:12 BSB
It’s a wonderful thing to know that we can truly pray to God. The name “Father” alone gives us all the assurance we need. If God is our Father, we can be sure that He will hear us and be eager to respond to our needs.
The Lord’s Prayer teaches us that our needs shouldn’t come first. If you count the petitions, you’ll notice that several come before we even get to “daily bread.” Yet most of us put our own needs first, leaving God’s name, kingdom, and will at the bottom of the list.
We must also be persistent in our prayers. In the story of the man asking for bread, he received it not because he was at his friend’s door, but because he wouldn’t stop knocking. He knew there was bread inside, and he wasn’t leaving without it. Jesus encourages us to do the same—keep knocking at our Father’s door, because the blessings we need are in His hands. We can trust that He wants to give us what is best.
