March 21

Then one poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which amounted to a small fraction of a denarius. — Mark 12:42 BSB

It’s not the size of our achievements, as the world sees them, that determines their real value. A seed is a small thing, but it carries a mysterious germ of life within it, and wherever it falls, it can grow into something beautiful. In many quiet words or deeds, there lies a hidden secret—a germ of divine life.

“What can I do today?
Not for praise to win, or glory to attain;
Not for gold, or ease, or power, or love to gain,
Or pleasure gay;
But to impart
Joy to some stricken heart;
To send some heaven-born ray
Of hope to cheer a sad, despairing soul;
To lift some weight of doubt;
Make truth more clear;
Dispel some darkening fear;
To soothe some pain;
Bring to the fold again
A lamb astray;
To brighten life for someone,
Here and now,
This let me do today.”
