But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: — Rom 10:8 BSB
Many people never find what they’re looking for because they’re searching in the wrong places. They travel far, seeking something that’s right in front of them.
They want to find Christ in their times of need and deep hunger, and they strain to see Him in the sky, all the while He’s right beside them—closer than the air they breathe. “Don’t say in your heart, ‘Who will go up to heaven to bring Christ down?’ The word is near you.” Christ is always close by, and we don’t need to search for Him far away.
A monk once prayed for a vision of Christ. A little child came to his door, crying for help, but the monk was too busy watching for the vision. At the end of the day, he realized that Christ had come in the form of the child, called out for help, but was turned away.
We should always look close to us for what we’re seeking. If we stop and listen, we’ll hear the voice we’ve been longing to hear.
