Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand. — Rom 14:4 BSB
The law of love requires us to constantly give up our own rights and freedoms for the sake of others. We shouldn’t expect others to see things the way we do. We should never look down on someone else’s deeply held beliefs, but always respect them. “Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? They stand or fall before their own master.”
Some people thoughtlessly make things difficult for those who have strong moral concerns about certain activities or pleasures. Everyone must follow their own conscience, and it’s wrong for us to pressure someone about their beliefs.
Our main concern should be to avoid causing anyone to stumble. So, we need to be willing to give up anything, even if we think it’s right, if it might lead someone else, especially someone weaker, into sin.
A Christian who isn’t ready to give up a habit for the sake of others hasn’t fully understood the great law of love: “Love does not seek its own.”
