My son, do not reject the discipline of the LORD, and do not loathe His rebuke; — Prov 3:11 BSB
The Bible speaks to us like a parent, with both authority and kindness. It’s hard not to resent discipline. Naturally, we don’t enjoy being corrected. The Bible even says, “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.” Even with God’s grace in our hearts, it still stings. We’re not expected to enjoy it, but we are told not to despise it. In other words, we should accept it without complaint.
It helps to remember that discipline comes from the Lord. He sends it because He loves us. He doesn’t cause us pain for the sake of it, but because it’s for our good. It’s His love that allows or sends the suffering, so it can help us grow.
