You dismiss the day of calamity and bring near a reign of violence. — Amos 6:3 BSB
We are told not to borrow trouble from the future. “Each day has enough trouble of its own.” It’s wrong to worry about what might happen later, or to dwell on the challenges we’ll face in the future. The Christian way is to handle today’s duties faithfully and leave the rest in God’s hands.
But if someone has a thousand-dollar bill due on a certain day, they can’t wait until that day comes without any preparation. They have to save up in advance. In the same way, we must prepare during good times for harder days ahead. We need to be diligent, economical, and careful when we’re young, so we’re ready for old age. We must live now in a way that prepares us for the day we stand before Christ in judgment.
