December 16

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. — Matt 4:18 BSB

Jesus sought disciples who could be shaped and influenced for His kingdom, and it’s interesting to note that He found them among those who were already busy in their daily work. He didn’t call the idle but those who were diligent in their common tasks.

Jesus is still looking for people to work with Him in His kingdom, and He often chooses those who are not wise by worldly standards but are humble, willing, and open-hearted. God found a king in young David, who was tending sheep, and a prophet in Elisha, who was plowing in the fields. Those who want to be used by Christ should strive to be ready—busy with their current duties, open to truth, and eager for any service He may call them to.
