At that time Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. — Matt 3:13 BSB
It is fascinating to reflect on the thirty silent years Jesus spent in Galilee. During that time, He lived a quiet life in a humble home, doing ordinary work. Although He once spoke of being about His Father's business, for the next eighteen years, He continued living in obscurity, carrying out the common duties of daily life.
This should remind us not to feel frustrated with our limited spheres or long for a more prominent role. If the Lord of Glory could live for thirty years in a small, peasant home, fulfilling His mission in the most ordinary tasks, then we can trust that our own humble work has significance. Jesus also did not rush into His public ministry. He took ample time to prepare for it. Many today are in such a hurry to begin their life’s work that they fail to adequately prepare. Time spent in preparation is never wasted.
