For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death. — Rom 8:2 BSB

The life of Jesus Christ, brought into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, operates as a new law of divine strength and vitality, lifting us above and counteracting the old law of sin and death.

Consider these two laws in a simple example. My hand, naturally, falls upon the desk due to the law of gravity. But there is a stronger law than gravity—my own life and will. By this higher law, the law of vitality, I can lift my hand and move it at will, defying gravity. The law of vitality makes me free from the law of gravity.

In the same way, the indwelling life of Christ operates in us, lifting us above the pull of sin and giving us victory over the power of our fallen nature.
