And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. — Rom 8:27 BSB
The Holy Spirit becomes, for the consecrated heart, the Spirit of intercession. We have two Advocates: one, Christ, who prays for us at God’s right hand, and the other, the Holy Spirit, who prays within us, inspiring our petitions and presenting them, through Christ, to God.
We need this Advocate because we don’t always know what to pray for or how to pray as we should. Yet, the Holy Spirit breathes into our hearts desires we may not even understand, groanings too deep for words.
God understands, though. As a loving Father, He searches our hearts to find the Spirit’s prayers and answers them. He hears many prayers we haven’t yet realized, and He answers cries we didn’t even know we made. One day, when we reach our eternal home and look back on our lives, we will better understand and appreciate the infinite love of this Divine Friend, who watched over us as the Spirit of prayer and breathed out every need of ours to God’s heart.
