For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. — Isa 9:6 BSB
You cannot make the heart restful by stopping its beating. Belladonna may do that, but that’s not true rest. Rest comes from the breath of life—God’s life and strength. Family ties and affection won’t bring it, nor will deliverance from trouble. Many a heart has thought, "If this great trouble were only gone, I would have rest." But as soon as one trouble goes, another comes. Like the wounded deer, we think we’ll find rest in the mountain stream, but the arrow remains in our side, and there is no rest until the wound is healed. Whether we are on the mountaintop or the plain, the rest we seek will only come when we give everything to Christ, trust that He has taken it all, and rest in Him. We must walk in holy obedience and allow Him to carry our burdens. As Paul said, "This one thing I do"—following Christ’s will is the one narrow path for us all.
