He guards the steps of His faithful ones, but the wicked perish in darkness; for by his own strength shall no man prevail. — 1 Sam 2:9 BSB

With the privileges of the higher Christian life come perils as well. The closer we draw to God, the more fiercely the hosts of darkness gather. The safe place is one of obedience to God’s Word, singleness of heart, and holy vigilance.

Christians who believe they have reached a place where they no longer need to watch are in great danger. Let us walk in sweet, holy confidence, but always with humble watchfulness, for He promises to “keep the feet of His saints.” And now, unto Him who is able to keep us from falling and to present us blameless before the presence of His glory, be glory, majesty, dominion, and power, both now and forever. Amen.

When you wonder what to do,
As you seek some watchword true,
Lo, the answer God has given:
What would Jesus do?

When fierce temptation comes,
With its fiery darts aimed at you,
This will be your sure protection:
What would Jesus do?
