For the body does not consist of one part, but of many. — 1 Cor 12:14 BSB

We have a friend who uses a phonograph for correspondence. It has two parts: one is a sensitive device that records tones and plays them back word for word through a hearing tube. The other part is just a simple little box under the table that supplies power through wires.

Now, imagine if the little box insisted on being the phonograph and doing the talking. If it did, it would waste its energy and ruin the phonograph’s function. Its only job is to supply power, while the phonograph does the talking.

In the same way, some of us are called to be voices for God, speaking to others, while others are called to sustain them through holy sympathy and silent prayer. Some of us are like the little power boxes under the table, while others are like the phonographs that speak God’s messages.

Each of us must be faithful to the ministry God has given us, and when the time comes, our work will be weighed, and rewards will be given.
