For I have chosen him, so that he will command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, in order that the LORD may bring upon Abraham what He has promised. — Gen 18:19 BSB

God is looking for people He can depend on. He said of Abraham, "I know him," and He fulfilled everything He promised to Abraham. Just as God is reliable, He wants us to be dependable and stable. This is what faith is all about. God seeks men and women who can carry the weight of His love, power, and promises. When He finds such a person, there’s nothing He won’t do for them. God’s engines are strong enough to carry any weight we attach to them, but the problem is that the cables of our faith are often too weak. So God trains us, disciplines us, and strengthens our faith so we can stand firm.

Let us learn these lessons and stand fast in faith.

God has His best things for the few
Who dare to stand the test;
God has His second choice for those
Who will not have His best.
Give me, O Lord, Thy highest choice,
Let others take the rest.
Their good things have no charm for me,
For I have got Thy best.
