but test all things. Hold fast to what is good. — 1 Thess 5:21 BSB
It’s a great thing to receive new truth and blessing without abandoning the truths we’ve already proven. Some people are always laying foundations, but never building anything. Their spiritual lives resemble abandoned construction sites with nothing completed.
If we keep abandoning the things we once held precious and true, we may end up rejecting today what we believe a year from now. God wants to continually teach and expand us, but He does so by building on the truths we’ve already learned and established.
While we are to “test everything,” let us hold on to what is good and walk by the same rule where we’ve already made progress.
