redeeming the time, because the days are evil. — Eph 5:16 BSB
Two little words are found in the Greek here: "ton kairon," translated as “buying up the opportunity” in the revised version. These words don’t refer to time in general, but to a specific moment—one full of potential, quickly passing, that we must seize before it's gone.
It suggests that there aren’t many such opportunities, as the days are evil. Like a desert where only a few flowers bloom, grab them while you can. Like a rare business chance, take it when it comes. Stay spiritually alert; don’t be unwise, but understand God’s will. Walk carefully, not foolishly, but wisely, buying up the opportunity for yourself.
Sometimes it's about saving a moment, sometimes about leading a soul to Christ, or showing love, patience, or overcoming temptation and sin. Let’s redeem every opportunity.
