Whoever is faithful with very little will also be faithful with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. — Luke 16:10 BSB

The man who missed his opportunity and faced the doom of the faithless servant wasn’t the one with five talents or the one with two. It was the man with only one. The people most in danger of missing life’s great meaning are often those with ordinary capacities and opportunities who say, “There’s so little I can do that I won’t even try.”

One of the finest windows in Europe was made from the remnants an apprentice boy collected from his master’s cuttings. The sweepings of the British mint are worth millions. The tiny pivots on which a watch’s works turn are so vital they are made of jewels. God places solemn value and responsibility on humble workers—the people who try to hide behind their supposed insignificance, their small opportunities, and their single talent. On the day of reckoning, our smallness won’t be an excuse.

Talk not of talents, what hast thou to do?
Thou hast sufficient, whether five or two.
Talk not of talents; is thy duty done?
This brings the blessing whether ten or one.
