April 20

These were the potters who lived at Netaim and Gederah. They lived there in the service of the king. — 1 Chr 4:23 BSB

It’s easy for water to run down from the upper springs, but it takes a divine impulse to flow up from the valley in the lower springs. Nothing reflects Christ more than seeing a Christian rejoice and remain cheerful in the humdrum routine of everyday work—like sailors singing while they load a ship, keeping time with their steps as they labor.

No one has a higher ministry for Christ than a business person or servant who carries the light of heaven in their face all day long. Just as the sea bird plunges into the ocean, emerging without a drop sticking to its feathers because of the oil that coats them, so can we be anointed by the Holy Spirit. Sin, sorrow, and defilement won’t stick to us, allowing us to pass through life, in but not of the world.
