The Sacrifice Has Been Accepted

But his wife replied, “If the LORD had intended to kill us, He would not have accepted the burnt offering and the grain offering from our hands, nor would He have shown us all these things or spoken to us this way.” — Judg 13:23 BSB

This verse offers a promise rooted in reason and logic. It’s an inference drawn from well-established truths. Manoah’s wife rightly reasoned that if the Lord had revealed to her and her husband that they would have a son, He didn’t intend to destroy them. Her reasoning was sound, and we would do well to follow her example.

The Father has accepted the great sacrifice of Jesus on Calvary and declared His pleasure with it—how could He now be pleased to destroy us? Why provide a substitute if the sinner still had to die? The acceptance of Christ’s sacrifice puts an end to our fears.

The Lord has shown us our election, our adoption, and our union with Christ. He has called us His bride—how could He now destroy us? The promises of God are filled with blessings that guarantee our preservation unto eternal life. It’s impossible for the Lord to cast us away and still fulfill His covenant. The past gives us assurance, and the future fills us with confidence. We will not die but live, for we have seen Jesus, and through Him, we have seen the Father by the illumination of the Holy Spirit. This life-giving vision assures us of life forever.
