Plead His Own Promise

Now therefore, may it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue forever before You. For You, O Lord GOD, have spoken, and with Your blessing the house of Your servant will be blessed forever. — 2 Sam 7:29 BSB

This is both a promise and an instruction for us. Anything the Lord has spoken should be received as absolutely true and then brought before Him in prayer.

How sweet it is to bring God’s own words back to Him in prayer! How precious it is to say “therefore,” just as David does in this verse, and build our prayers on the promises of God.

We don’t pray out of doubt; we pray because we believe. It’s not fitting for the children of God to pray in unbelief. No, Lord, we trust You. We are fully persuaded that every word You’ve spoken is a sure foundation for our boldest hopes. We come to You and say, “Do as You have said.” Bless our households. Heal the sick among us, save those who are wavering, bring back those who have strayed, and strengthen those who live in the fear of Your name. Lord, provide for our needs, just as You promised. Bless the work we do, especially our efforts to spread Your gospel in our communities. Make our servants and children Yours. Let Your blessing flow to future generations, and as long as our family remains on this earth, may they remain true to You. O Lord, let the house of Your servant be blessed.
