From Every Sin
She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins. — Matt 1:21 BSB
Lord, save me from my sins. The name of Jesus gives me the boldness to pray this. Save me from my past sins, so their habits won’t hold me captive. Save me from my inherent weaknesses, so I won’t be a slave to my own sinful tendencies. Save me from the sins that are constantly before my eyes, so I don’t become desensitized to their horror. Save me from secret sins—those I can’t see because I lack the light to reveal them. Save me from sudden and surprising sins, so I won’t be swept away by a rush of temptation. Save me, Lord, from all sin. Let no iniquity rule over me.
You alone can do this. I can’t break my own chains or defeat my own enemies. You know temptation, for You were tempted. You know sin, for You bore its weight. You know how to help me in my hour of struggle. You can save me from sinning, and You can save me after I’ve sinned. Your very name promises that You will do this. So today, Lord, let me see this promise fulfilled. Keep me from anger, pride, despair, or any form of evil. Save me into a life of holiness, so that the name of Jesus will be glorified in me.
