Servants Honored
Whoever tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who looks after his master will be honored. — Prov 27:18 BSB
The one who tends the fig tree will eat its fruit, and the one who serves a good master will be honored. Truly, the Lord Jesus is the best of masters, and it is an honor to do even the smallest task for His sake. Serving some earthly masters can be like watching over a barren tree, where your reward is bitter. But serving the Lord Jesus is like tending a tree full of the sweetest figs. His service is a delight, staying in it brings promotion, succeeding in it brings blessings on earth, and the reward is eternal glory in heaven.
Our greatest honors will come when the fruit is fully ripe—in the next life. Angels, who are now our helpers, will carry us home when our work is done. Heaven, where Jesus is, will be our eternal home, eternal joy will be our reward, and the Lord Himself will be our constant companion. Who can fully grasp the depth of this promise: "The one who serves their master will be honored"?
Lord, help me to serve my Master faithfully. Let me wait for honor when You choose to give it. May the Holy Spirit make me a humble, patient worker and servant!
