Drawing Near to God

Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. — Jas 4:8 BSB

The closer we draw to God, the more graciously He will reveal Himself to us. When the prodigal son approached his father, his father ran to meet him. When the wandering dove returned to the ark, Noah reached out his hand to bring her in. When a loving wife seeks her husband’s company, he comes to her with wings of love. So, dear friend, let us draw near to God, who so graciously waits for us, even coming to meet us.

Have you ever noticed that passage in Isaiah 58:9? There, the Lord seems to make Himself available to His people, saying, “Here I am.” It’s as if He’s asking, “What can I do for you? I’m waiting to bless you.” How can we hesitate to draw near? God is ready to forgive, to bless, to comfort, to help, to revive, and to deliver. Let our main focus be on getting close to God. Once that is done, everything else falls into place. If we draw near to other people, they may eventually tire of us and leave; but if we seek the Lord alone, He will never change His mind and will continue to draw nearer to us, blessing us with fuller and more joyful fellowship.
