Becoming Fit for Glory

For the LORD God is a sun and a shield; the LORD gives grace and glory; He withholds no good thing from those who walk with integrity. — Ps 84:11 BSB

Grace is what we need right now, and it’s available freely. What could be freer than a gift? Today, we will receive sustaining, strengthening, sanctifying, and satisfying grace. God has given us daily grace up until now, and for the future, His grace is still sufficient. If we have only a little grace, the fault lies with us, not with Him; for the Lord is not limited, nor is He slow to bestow grace abundantly. We can ask for as much grace as we need and never fear being refused. He gives liberally and without reproach.

The Lord may not give us gold, but He will give us grace. He may not give us material gain, but He will give us grace. He will surely send us trials, but He will give grace in proportion to the trials. We may be called to work and to suffer, but with the call comes all the grace we need.

What an “end” is that in the text—“and glory!” We don’t need glory yet, and we’re not ready for it; but we will have it in due time. After we have eaten the bread of grace, we will drink the wine of glory. We must pass through the holy, which is grace, to reach the holiest of all, which is glory. The words “and glory” are enough to make a person dance for joy. Just a little while—a little while—and then glory forever!
