Surefootedness

GOD the Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like those of a deer; He makes me walk upon the heights! — Hab 3:19 BSB

The confidence of a person who trusts in God is as good as a promise, because whatever faith is sure of, that is God's purpose. The prophet had to walk through deep poverty and famine, but he did so without stumbling because the Lord made him secure. Later, he was called to face great challenges, but he wasn’t afraid to go up the mountain any more than he was afraid to walk down into the valley.

Look! The Lord gave him strength—no, more than that, the Lord Himself was his strength. Imagine that: the almighty God being our strength!

Notice also that God gave him surefootedness. Just as the deer leaps across rocks and cliffs without slipping, God will give us the grace to walk the hardest paths without falling. He equips us for the challenges that would otherwise overwhelm us.

One day, we will be called to even higher places—to ascend to the mount of God, where His shining ones are gathered. Oh, what feet of faith we will have, following the One who leads us up into the heights of the Lord!
