God with Us

Then Israel said to Joseph, “Look, I am about to die, but God will be with you and bring you back to the land of your fathers. — Gen 48:21 BSB

When Jacob’s time came to die, he could no longer be with Joseph. But he wasn’t worried, for he confidently said, “God shall be with you.” When our closest loved ones or most helpful friends are taken by death, we must find comfort in knowing that the Lord is still with us. He remains for us and will never leave us.

If God is with us, we are in the best company, even if we are poor and overlooked by others. If God is with us, we have all the strength we need, for nothing is too difficult for Him. If God is with us, we are always safe, for no harm can come to those who walk under His protection. What a joy this is! Not only is God with us now, but He will continue to be with us. He is with us as individuals, as families, and as churches. Isn’t Jesus called “Immanuel,” which means “God with us”? What greater happiness can we have than knowing God is with us? Let us be diligent and hopeful. Our cause will succeed, and the truth will prevail, for the Lord is with those who are with Him. May every believer enjoy this sweet promise today. Nothing brings greater joy.
