Ever Mindful

The LORD is mindful of us; He will bless us. He will bless the house of Israel; He will bless the house of Aaron; — Ps 115:12 BSB

I can testify to that first sentence. Can’t you? Yes, Jehovah has thought of us, provided for us, comforted us, delivered us, and guided us. In all the movements of His providence, He has been mindful of us, never overlooking even our smallest concerns. His mind has been full of us—that’s what being mindful means. This has been the case all along, without a single break. At certain times, however, we have more clearly seen this mindfulness, and we should recall those moments now with overflowing gratitude. Yes, indeed, “the Lord has been mindful of us.”

The next sentence is a logical conclusion from the first. Since God is unchanging, He will continue to be mindful of us in the future just as He has been in the past, and His mindfulness means blessing us. But here, we have not only a conclusion based on reason but also a declaration of inspiration; we have it on the authority of the Holy Spirit—“He will bless us.” This promise means great and unsearchable things. The very vagueness of the promise suggests its infinite reach. He will bless us in His own divine way, and that blessing will last forever. Therefore, let each of us say, “Bless the Lord, O my soul!”
