Mercy to the Undeserving

Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but loving devotion surrounds him who trusts in the LORD. — Ps 32:10 BSB

What a beautiful reward for trust! My Lord, grant it to me fully! The one who trusts above all others feels himself to be a sinner, and behold, mercy is prepared for him. He knows he has no merit, but mercy comes in and provides for him generously. O Lord, give me this mercy, for I trust in You!

Look, my soul, at the protection you have! Just as a prince is surrounded by soldiers, so you are surrounded by mercy. Before and behind, and on all sides, these mounted guards of grace are around you. We dwell in the center of mercy, for we dwell in Christ Jesus.

O my soul, what an atmosphere you breathe! Just as the air surrounds you, so does the mercy of your Lord. For the wicked, there are many sorrows, but for you, there are so many mercies that your sorrows are not even worth mentioning. David says, “Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; and shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.” In obedience to this command, my heart will rejoice in God, and I will express my gladness. As You have surrounded me with mercy, I will also surround Your altar, O my God, with songs of thanksgiving!
