Our Holiest Example

I have set the LORD always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. — Ps 16:8 BSB

This is how to live. When we keep God always before us, we enjoy the best companionship, the holiest example, the sweetest comfort, and the greatest strength. This must be a deliberate choice of the mind: “I have set” God before me. It’s something we must stick with. To always be aware of God’s gaze and attentive to His voice—that’s the mindset of the godly person. God is near, filling our vision, guiding our steps, and giving us the substance of our thoughts. If we truly kept God before us at all times, think of the foolishness we would avoid, the sins we would conquer, the virtues we would display, and the joy we would experience! So why not do it?

This is also the way to be safe. When God is ever-present in our minds, we start to feel secure and confident because of His nearness. He is at our right hand to guide and support us, so we’re not shaken by fear, force, deceit, or uncertainty. When God stands at a person’s right hand, that person is guaranteed to stand strong. So come, enemies of the truth! Rush at me like a storm if you want. God holds me up. God stays with me. Who should I fear?
