God Is Our Ally

But if you will listen carefully to his voice and do everything I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and a foe to your foes. — Exod 23:22 BSB

The Lord Jesus, present in the midst of His people, must be acknowledged and obeyed. He represents God’s authority and speaks in the Father’s name. It is our duty to do as He commands, without hesitation. We can’t expect to claim the promises if we don’t follow the commands.

Full obedience brings great blessings! The Lord enters into a covenant with His people, both to protect and bless them. He promises to bless those who bless us and curse those who curse us. God is fully committed to His people, aligning Himself with their cause. What a sense of security this gives us! We don’t need to worry about our enemies when we know that they’ve become enemies of God. If the Lord has taken up our cause, we can leave our adversaries in His hands.

As far as our own interests are concerned, we have no enemies. But for the sake of truth and righteousness, we take up arms and go to battle. In this holy war, we are allied with the eternal God. And if we carefully obey the commands of our Lord Jesus, He is committed to using all His power on our behalf. Therefore, we have no reason to fear anyone.
