Before and During the Call

Even before they call, I will answer, and while they are still speaking, I will hear. — Isa 65:24 BSB

How quick is the Lord to respond! Before we even call, He hears us, and often, He answers just as swiftly. God, in His omniscience, sees our needs and our prayers before we even speak, arranging things in such a way that the answer is already on its way. Even before we face affliction, the comfort that will sustain us through it has already arrived. What a prayer-answering God we serve!

The second part of this verse brings to mind the speed of a telephone call. Though God is in heaven and we are on earth, our words, like His, travel swiftly. When we pray correctly, we are speaking directly into the ear of God. Our gracious Mediator presents our prayers immediately, and our loving Father hears them and smiles upon them. What a powerful privilege it is to pray! Knowing that we have the ear of the King of kings, who would not pray often? Today, I will pray in faith—not only believing that I will be heard, but that I am already heard. Not only trusting that I will be answered, but that the answer has already been given. Holy Spirit, help me to pray with this confidence!
