Waiting, Not Running
In God alone my soul finds rest; my salvation comes from Him. — Ps 62:1 BSB
What a blessed posture it is to wait truly and only upon the Lord! May this be our state all day, every day. Whether waiting for His timing, waiting in His service, or waiting in joyful expectation, we do so in prayer and contentment. When the soul waits in this way, it is in its truest and best condition—like a creature before its Creator, a servant before its Master, or a child before its Father. We make no demands of God, nor complain about Him; we allow no impatience or doubt. We do not run ahead of Him or look elsewhere for help—such actions are not truly waiting on God. No, God alone is the expectation of our hearts.
What a blessed assurance! Salvation is on its way, coming from the Lord. It will come from Him alone, and He will receive all the glory for it, as He is the only one who can accomplish it. And He will do so with certainty, in His own perfect time and manner. He will save us from doubts, sufferings, slander, and distress. Though we may not yet see the signs of deliverance, we are content to wait on His will because we trust in His love and faithfulness. He will make His work evident soon enough, and we will praise Him in advance for the mercy that is coming.
