What to Leave Children

The righteous man walks with integrity; blessed are his children after him. — Prov 20:7 BSB

It’s natural to be concerned about our family, but it’s wiser to focus on our own integrity. Walking before the Lord with integrity does more to bless our descendants than leaving them a large inheritance. A father’s holy life is a rich legacy for his children.

The upright person leaves behind an example, which is a treasure in itself. Many people can trace their success to the example set by their parents.

He also leaves behind a good reputation. People think well of us because we are the children of someone who was trustworthy, the successors of a person of great repute. Oh, that all young people would strive to uphold the family name!

Above all, he leaves his children his prayers and the blessing of a God who hears those prayers. These blessings make our offspring favored among people. God will save them, even after we are gone. Oh, that they might be saved now!

Our integrity may be the means God uses to save our sons and daughters. If they see the truth of our faith in our lives, they may believe in Jesus for themselves. Lord, fulfill this word to my household!
