Desires of Righteous Granted

What the wicked man dreads will overtake him, but the desire of the righteous will be granted. — Prov 10:24 BSB

Because this is a righteous desire, it is safe for God to grant it. It would not be good for the person or society if such a promise were made to the unrighteous. Let us keep the Lord’s commands, and He will rightfully fulfill our desires.

When righteous people have unrighteous desires, they will not be granted. But those are not their real desires; they are mere wanderings or blunders, and it is good that they are refused. Their gracious desires will come before the Lord, and He will not say no.

If the Lord denies our requests for a time, let the promise for today encourage us to ask again. If He denies them altogether, we will still thank Him, for it was always our desire that He should deny us if He judged it best.

For some things, we ask very boldly. Our chief desires are for holiness, usefulness, likeness to Christ, and preparation for heaven. These are the desires of grace rather than nature—the desires of the righteous person rather than just a person. God will not hold back on these things but will do for us exceedingly abundantly. “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” My soul, ask largely today!
