Spurgeon's Prayer: Reverence on Holy Ground

“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”
— Exodus 3:5 (BSB)

When we come before the throne of grace, let us always remember that we are standing on holy ground.
— Charles Spurgeon

Our Father, who is in heaven, we bow before You in worship, acknowledging that You alone are the true and living God. Today, we honor Your name as holy, recognizing that when we draw near to You, we are standing on holy ground. Like Moses before the burning bush, we approach You with humility and awe, for You are the Most High, and we are Your creation. We acknowledge that anything good in us comes from You. Though we may not yet wear crowns, we humbly cover ourselves with the righteousness of Christ, which is our only worthy covering.

With deep reverence, we lift our hearts to You, joining with the angels and saints in heaven, singing Your praises. Glory, honor, and power belong to You alone. Father, may Your name be glorified throughout the earth. Let all false gods and idols be destroyed, and may Your truth reign in every heart. Subdue sin and wickedness, whether it be oppression, unchastity, or any other evil, by the power of the Gospel of Christ.

We pray that many souls would turn to You today. Bring conviction of sin, and lead people to repentance through the love of Christ. Help us, too, to live lives that reflect Your holiness, with every thought, word, and deed surrendered to Your will. May Your kingdom come, and may we honor You in everything we do. Amen.
