Spurgeon's Prayer: Living in the Spirit
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
— Galatians 5:16 (BSB)
Without the Spirit of God, we can do nothing. We are as ships without wind. We are useless.
— Charles Spurgeon
Father, we acknowledge that without the fullness of Your Spirit, we can do nothing. We are like ships without wind, powerless and directionless. We ask that You pour out Your Spirit upon us, that every part of our nature may be sweetened and purified by Your presence. Help us to walk in the Spirit, that we may not gratify the desires of the flesh but live in a way that pleases You.
Purify our imaginations, Lord, that we may delight only in what is pure and holy. Cleanse our memories of the vile things that linger from the past, and fill our minds with heavenly things. May our thoughts be saturated with Your love, and may our hearts long for the treasures of heaven, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
Lord, we ask for strength to resist the desires of the flesh. Help us to crucify the sinful nature with its passions and desires, and let us walk in step with the Spirit. Empower us to say no to sin and yes to righteousness, that we may live lives that reflect Your holiness. Let our highest thoughts and deepest desires be directed toward You, that we may be filled with the dew of heaven.
We pray that the Spirit of God would guide us in all we do, that our lives may be filled with His power and presence. Help us to keep in step with the Spirit, living each day in the fullness of His grace. Amen.
