Spurgeon's Prayer: Hastening Toward Eternal Life
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance the race set out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
— Hebrews 12:1-2 (BSB)
The Christian’s life should put his face to heaven, and drive him heavenward as fast as time will carry him.
— Charles Spurgeon
Father, we ask that You quicken our pace as we journey toward eternal life. Help us to run with perseverance the race that has been set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Let us not grow weary or lose heart, but may we press on with greater zeal, knowing that the prize of eternal life is before us.
Lord, we desire to live with eternity in mind, always keeping our focus on the things that truly matter. Let us not be distracted by the temporary cares of this world, but help us to set our hearts on heavenly things. May each day bring us closer to the goal, as we seek to live for Your glory and to make an impact for Your kingdom.
We pray for Your blessing on the Church and its mission in the world. Strengthen those who labor for the Gospel, whether they are pastors, missionaries, or laypeople. May each heart be kept in the right state, that You may use Your servants to their fullest potential. We ask that You bless both those who are discouraged and those who rejoice in the fruit of their work. May Your kingdom continue to grow, and may Your name be glorified throughout the earth.
Lord, help us to hasten toward eternal life, running the race with perseverance and faith. Let us live with eternity in mind, knowing that our true home is with You. Amen.
