Spurgeon's Prayer: Rest for the Weary Soul
Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
— Matthew 11:28 (BSB)
Rest time is not waste time. It is economy to gather fresh strength.
— Charles Spurgeon
Heavenly Father, we come before You weary and burdened, seeking the rest only You can give. You are our refuge, and in Your presence, we find perfect peace. Lord, some of us have been carrying heavy burdens for far too long. We ask You to take these from us now, as You have invited us to come and find rest in You. Place Your gentle hand upon us and speak Your words of peace, "Do not be afraid."
We release the burdens that weigh on our minds—worries about the future, anxieties about today—and place them at Your feet. We trust in Your power to renew and restore us. Just as the sick bed becomes soft when You are near, and the fires of affliction are cooled, we know that in Your presence we will find the peace and renewal our souls need.
Father, we surrender our striving and acknowledge our need for You. Remove the weight of our heavy armor, even if just for a little while, and let us find comfort in Your care. As You have cleansed us with Your blood, wash away any lingering defilement that keeps us from perfect communion with You. Refresh us, Lord, and prepare us to walk in close fellowship with You today.
Let nothing distract us from seeking You. Take away the concerns of this world, and help us rest fully in Your loving care. We long to experience Your peace, where our minds are at rest and our spirits are renewed. Thank You, Lord, for being our source of strength, and for the promise of rest that we find in You alone.
