Now here is the king walking before you, and I am old and gray, and my sons are here with you. I have walked before you from my youth until this day. — 1 Sam 12:2 BSB

Old age is the true test of life. It is the harvest of all that has been sown. As the evening shadows gather, the deeds of a lifetime take on their true value. Memories of past actions surround the elderly person, bringing either peace or regret.

It is a great blessing to be able to look back on life without shame, confident that one’s actions have been upright. This kind of peace can only come from living a life of integrity and righteousness, starting from youth and continuing through every stage of life.

If we hope to look back on our lives with joy and peace in old age, we must begin early to live rightly. Every day’s choices shape the legacy we will leave behind. We must be careful to live in such a way that when the light shines on the pages of our life, we can face it without fear or regret.
